Newcomer Anna Neale then hit the Waverley stage for her first time, having seen our website and travelled all the way from the south of England (Cambridge, I believe) for the pleasure. It wasn't a trip in vain, as her opener proved she could belt it out with the best of them, projecting very well over a 2 -chord rock-style riff, ending unusually with a nice picked arpeggio. "Protect Me From The Pain" had her in a more American style voicing, with some great held vocal notes over a chunky, effective backing. You could tell that she'd sung in a band, and she had, The Commitments, amongst others, to be precise (more info at http://www.annaneale.co.uk/) Ending with a "blues/funk" number, it was an up tempo song with some passionate high quavered notes, and the uplifting "Everything you do/Brings me back to you, woo-yay!". Always good to hear a good woo-yay, that's what I say, if people woo-yayed more often there'd be less trouble. Anna's got some more gigs around the UK coming up, so have a look at her site.(6 Nov 2003)
Erstwhile OOTB performer (her poster has been on the Waverley wall for a year or so) Anna Neale was up from Cambridge and thankfully popped in for our listening pleasure tonight. Standing up to give her strong voice even more volume "Lucy's Afternoon" was mellow for Anna and, of course, accomplished and confident befitting a veteran of the Ross Bandstand and Café Royal during this year's Fringe. "Just The Start", recently written, had a great chorus and "Everything You Do" was a mighty finale with funk, soul and pop merging with Mr. Clark's djembe.
