(Feb 2004)
Lindsay Sugden (not to be confused with Lynsey Hutchinson) was next, melodically picking her way through our lives, some lovely runs and hammer-ons trilling like tropical birds in the canopy. A soft, yearning vocal, reminding me at times of a folkier Harriet Wheeler (of The Sundays), questioning lines like "How is it so easy to feel like you?" indicating the song subject being the charting of the inner regions. More unexpected chord chimes offered a counterpoint to the hopeful "Life will be better, wait and see" line, and made me want to hear more from Lindsay in future, as I enjoyed her set very much.(Ap2 2004)
Lindsay Sugden and Andy Moore were next. Andy abandoned his first attempt but was soon in full swing with a jazz-tinged number which really showed off his nice clear strong vocal. Lindsay, with her lovely crystalline clear guitar playing, joined Andy for the next one. A nice mellow sound (a bit like a very subdued Wedding Present in bits) which took an unexpected twist about three quarters way through when Andy's voice exploded into an impassioned 'shout'. Class. Lindsay finished with a song which is fast becoming one of my top OOTB tunes, Negativity. Although her guitar's dotted with some quite intricate little pieces, it's all very tastefully done and never clouds her beautifully clear sweet vocal.
