It was a wondrous but rare sight to see two gingergreen-ers playing at the Waverley (although Kathryn makes it down most nights). The band are like Lennon & McCartney in that they write their songs individually, they add their own bits and whoever writes them sings them. "Caroline" is Andy's and his lead vocal was ultra-melodious while Supergirl Kat (check the t-shirt) soared and dived vocally, one minute hitting top C and the next singing underneath Andy. Kathryn's "Hole In Your Head" featured Andy hitting the high notes, showing the talent and unconventionality of this duo. The song itself was an existential tale of dreams and how 'nothing is real'. Setting the very high standards again, the mighty gingergreen.

(March 2004)
gingergreen started off the second half with a wood block and fancy looking guitar, and also a plug for their gig the following night, though unfortunately most of the people had left by this point and were none the wiser. Their folksy guitar and lyrics worked well together, and it was nice to hear some harmonies for a change. Along with the wood block, this was one professional sounding duo. "I started to put down roots, and they spread beneath my feet" was a wicked line. The act was furthered with the introduction of a kazoo for their second song, pretty brave I thought. The Spanish sounding guitar was complimented by some excellent lyrics, drawing analogies like "you're so transparent, you're like a jelly fish", and "I think we're salmon, we always end up smoked" was the impeccable last line. For their third, they resorted back to plain old guitars. This was mournful but powerful, with some nice imagery in lines like "take off your protective shell, why not lose the clothes as well?" The people who left should have stuck around for this one.
