(December 2004)
Jim Bryce a well-seasoned performer from the inner city, next gave us an impassioned rendering of something almost Christmassy, most of which appeared to have been made up right here on the spot. "I'm bored with winter!" he cried before launching into a tirade of improvised lyrics that were fairly unsupportive of any kind of Christmas activity. Having got that out of his system Jim calmed down and meandered onto the OOTB keyboard and into a slower Billy Joel Piano Man type of song that went down well.(June 2003)
Jim Bryce provided a contrast in styles, his "song about feeling happy" honky-tonk opener tested the new house keyboard, and it sounded rather good! Very original lyrics listed reasons to be sad, but then concluded that he wasn't, which I liked. "Waiting for the man" was not a Velvet's cover, rather a more folk-influenced number with a repeating, hypnotic riff/vocal combo, then ended with "Moon On Water Song", a haunting, lament-style acappella number interspersed with achingly beautiful Penny Whistle. Accomplished and varied, Jim's new album should be worth a listen when it hits the shops.
