(May2002)
Eirik from Norway came from nowhere and looked very comfortable on stage for one so young. He plays in a band Josephine and looked great in his big beady collar and red sneakers. His English is very good and his songs "Found A Friend Today", "Walking Deeper" and "Play" varied from the jazzy to the straight folk-pop. Another act I don't think I'd tire of seeing. I will definitely look out for Josephine and Playtone in the near future.(Nov 2004)
Last man standing tonight was Eirik - performing acoustic & solo. His first song was 'Slaves' and he started as he meant to go on with as rocky an acoustic performance as I have ever seen at the Waverley. I got so much into it I forgot to write down any lyrics. By his second song 'Fever Man' Nelson couldn't resist and the bongos were brought out for a bashing. Like a motorbike on half-throttle Eirik is always biding his time in the verses so he can go flat out on the chorus with powerful effect. His third song was a new one and still wet behind the ears at six days old. Christened 'Corporate Blood' he baptised it in vitriolic style with the line 'corporate blood in your veins' and it was a screamer. Never before have I considered the moshing capabilities of the Waverley.... well, not seriously! This rousing performance touched places in the Waverley that haven't been dusted for years (narrows it down a lot). Eirik is in a band called 'Josephine' from his home country of Norway and some of these songs are from their forthcoming E.P. 'Welcome The Revolutionaries' due in early 2003.
