A rare appearance from local favourites The Peggy Vestas ended the evening. The complexly structured "Kalahari" - about having a party in the desert of the same name - featured two guitars, bass and some fine vocal harmonies. "Seven Jokes", featured on the "Writer's Block" CD (from 1999), was as tuneful, rounded and tight as ever (sample lyric: 'you have to understand/ your seven jokes that make the man'). Vocal trumpeting and harmonised guitars were amongst the features of "The Church Of God To The Ecologist" (sample lyric: 'at least with the old god/ you got to go to heaven'). This was probably the best-received final performance we've had so far at the Waverley Bar.

Next it was the turn of the Peggy Vestas, aka Stu and Rich, and I'd heard of these guys before but never seen them play. "Lip Service" was their first, extremely tight and polished guitar work with honest sounding vocals and simple lines like "its what nostalgia pays to precious memories". "Best Day" had some nice harmonies, an upbeat and happy sound overall and obviously well practised. Their last one, "Not Withstanding", was I think the best of the night, with quieter more complex interweaving guitar picking, featuring some beautiful harmonies in the chorus. A belter of a song, ending an extremely tight performance from this pair.
