Sarah Birch hasn't played for a while and it was great to have her back. She played her happy set tonight as she was concerned about having a reputation for being dour. "Pee" set the ball rolling and had a light, summery feel. Her voice is improving all the time and has a rich, vulnerable quality. Lyrically this was not a happy song being a bitter tale of an ex-boyfriend but overall the sound was happy. "Geneva Convention" was based on the theme of infidelity and compromise. There was a feeling of completeness about it and was very well sung and played, with a lovely picked guitar pattern. "Sorca Di Forca" (I think that's the title) is Italian for something very rude and was most amusing. I didn't think it was possible to fit as many swearwords into a chorus as Sarah did but she managed it. Again, a sideswipe at her ex-boyfriend but ending with 'I like you' so their split wasn't too acrimonious. I enjoyed this mix of intelligence, humour and, most importantly, good songs.
