"Why don't you play the game" was a crystallisation of everything Simon's music represents, an chorus that sounds like a man obsessively brooding over lost love, some excellent picked blues riffs on the red Telecaster, and a solo or two in the middle. Soulful and a tad threatening at times, this was Simon back at what he does best, "Meet Me By The River" was just as good, and finishing with "Just As Well", Simon's voice like a leaf floating on the ripples of music. Surely it's time this man had a recording to sell??

Simon Currie came along for the first time in several weeks and his first appearance since the OOTB CD launch. "A Time To Kill" was mellow and featured a very unusual and lovely chord. I'll have to remember to get a note of it from Simon and use it in one of my songs! This was spellbinding and featured a great guitar run which he made look effortless. "Quit" was 'relatively new ' and raw and had Simon's trademark fingering, racing up and down the fret board like quicksilver. He played "Coward" to finish (Simon's contribution to "Waverley Nights") and I wrote just one word in my notes for this - awesome.
