'the G played some finger crunching guitar chords. His second was about the start of a day, beginning with some pleasant sleepy guitar picking and an optimistic tone, with lines such as "just one moment when I wake up, and my head is full of love" sung in a more laid back fashion than the last song.'
(October 2004)
'Opening with "Glide More", and sporting a pair of lovely tartan bondage trousers, the G, like Fraser Drumond, played the mouthy along with his guitar, a great big 12 String. Nice. Settling in to a good groove with audience tambouroine from Mr D this was an "up" song (as are all the G's I think) with the line “I hope that happiness comes into your life”. A sentiment I share. Next was "Always Awake", dedicated to the forthcoming visit of the Dalai Lama, the G being a bit of a meditator himself. This song had a good riff and more mouthy combined with nice harmonics enhanced by the use of the 12 string. "Fish don’t sleep they just meditate" - interesting to know... "East Coast" is probably The G’s most funky song and he said he’d try and sing it in the correct dialect! "Chilliing time down on the East Coast". Yeah Funky baby!
i'd rather die a young man in my own blood than an old man in my own piss
i've got something inside that can't be denied i may take a chance and miss
but if it comes together and my life for ever is imbued with a certain bliss
then the freedom i find within my own mind will feel like a morning kiss
and i'll go out like a hero
now bobby deniro is no local hero they've probably heard of him on mars
and jimmy dean started a scene when he proved it could be done in cars
while jimmy page proved all the rage when it came to playing guitars
but number one didn't get the job done just by hanging out in bars
going out like a hero
going out going out going out - out like a hero
cassius clay had so much to say he even thought to change his name
to muhammed ali who stung like a bee a butterfly all the same
jesus christ put up no fight when they were looking for someone to blame
while the thin white duke felt the rebuke from white lines of fashion and fame
going out like a hero
going out going out going out - out like a hero
