(October 2003)
William Douglas was suffering from a cold, but it didn't show in his performance, going for the spanking new "Mr Blue & Mr Red", a descending, Kinks-like chord progression acting a suitable backdrop for his thoughtful, observational vocal style. I don't think I've heard a bad song from William, and this was no exception. "Mary's Medicine" was aired next, about children who take "Mary's Medicine", the gently sad vocal veering into almost psychedelia with the line "Something deeper", the guitar pounding like an insane drug rush. Cheekily worked "a bit of "Singin' in the Rain" into it too!(December 03)
William Douglas capped off a fine year with the lovely "As I Flew Into The Sun", picking at the start instead of the usual strumming, he crooned sadly "You don't need me on you mind so say goodbye", before picking up momentum midway, some nice changes in direction seemed to alter the songs meaning as you travelled it's path. "A Twist In The Wolf's Tale" is a newer song, and show's William's narrative style very well in this neatly reversed morality (folk) tale. William has been writing songs this year at a prodigious rate, so I'm looking forward to what 2004 can bring from his pen.
