OOTB And Aboot

Posted 14/09/2010 By admin

Another week’s gone past! Hope you’re all recovering from the Festival by now. Just got a few events to tell you about this week, firstly it’s the Regent Showcase tonight, it’s in the Regent Bar, which is at the top of Abbeymount and the end of Regent Road. Starts at 8:30pm and it’s free to get in. The musical selection often has a considerable overlap with Out of the Bedroom, it’s always been a good night in my experience, go along, you’ll like it. 🙂

I’m always telling you about the McEwan’s Ale House open mic on Fridays at 9pm, and The Listening Room at the Blue Blazer on Sunday starting at 8pm, and i’m mentioning them again because i still keep hearing from people how good these nights are (though i’ve been too darn busy to go along for a while myself, hope to rectify that soon!), so yeah, go to those, if you can, they’re great fun.

Next thing to mention to you is a gig at the Voodoo Rooms Ballroom on Monday 20th September, featuring Hannah O’Reilly, Neoviolet, Caro Bridges, Dan Gillan and Cal Roberts, and it’s £5/4 to get in (which is a bargain for five acts of this calibre. What can you buy for a fiver these days? Seriously…)

Wheels (slowly) turn behind the scenes as we breathe life into the old OOTB horse yet again, more news on that as it happens, in the meantime, relive the good old days on our YouTube channel! Say hello if you see me at one of those gigs i just mentioned too. 🙂

Her story driven songs have taken her to play shows all over Ireland as well as in Nashville, New Orleans and San Francisco. Her last EP, ADAMS, was released in 2017 and described as “one of the best releases of the year.” Suffice to say, Out of the Bedroom rarely books touring musicians but we are big fans of Sonja’s music and are delighted she is our feature act.

Inspired and influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, and Swans, The Trailer Park Saints have set out to form their own unique way of blending it all together. Jonas has also played Out of the Bedroom using the alias Skip, the Android.

Sometimes solo, he likes to bring in other musicians on a fluid and flexible basis. DOAS released Autonomy – a debut album about fighting to secure and maintain personal autonomy – last year, and also have two EPs out. The first open mic Ed ever attended was Out Of The Bedroom, so he’s looking forward to DOAS featuring there again!

Ali TodOut of the Bedroom #667 is this Thursday, 19th April. We had an excellent 666 – keeping the forces of darkness at bay (most of the time, we shone the lights in the audience more brightly) – and are again at Woodland Creatures from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. 🙂 Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Feature act for #667 is the mighty Ali Tod. Ali is classically trained, but has a genre-defying style that is far flung from the classical guitar. With heavy influence from artists such as Rodrigo y Gabriela and KT Tunstall, Ali has developed a unique blend of percussive guitar and loop mastery, to create an original sound that gets hands clapping, hips shaking and feet stomping.

Line up was: Jim Bryce, Euan Glasgow, Pink Kudu, Impossible Songs, Bill Phillip, The Old Town Rambler, Suzanne Dyson, Michael, Skip the Android, Savona, Ali Tod, feature act: Scott Candlish.

Scott CandlishOut of the Bedroom #666 is coming this Thursday, 5th April! According to some translations of the Bible, 666 is the number of the beast… who, apparently, was the dastardly Emperor Nero. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers, dreamers, writers, potters, cheesemakers, meek people and fallen Roman emperors are welcome to come along and enjoy the evening.

Feature act for #666 is Scott Candlish. Singer songwriter Scott Candlish is fresh from the release of his second EP in 2017 ‘Home Away from Home’. Originally from Melbourne Scott moved to Edinburgh in the last 12 months and has been hitting the city’s music scene by storm. His influences include Ryan Adams, Ben Howard, Bon Iver and The Tallest Man on Earth.
