OOTB 569 – 14th June – Enradgey

Posted 11/06/2014 By admin

enradgey_starHello. Featured act this week is Edinburgh songwriter Enradgey. This man of talent has played on the OOTB stage several times with his own style of self-penned acoustic blues/rock songs which have an Americana country flavour coming through as well. With great vocals, guitar and some mean harmonica playing all makes for a great performance not to be missed this Saturday at the Kilderkin bar.

Here’s a link to Enradgey on Reverbnation: reverbnation.com/enradgey

Open slots made of original material are draped over the stage for fifteen minutes each so that a healthy corn-fed audience can hear your amazing creations. Sign up around 7:15pm-7:30pm and OOTB will raise the metaphorical freshly washed velvety curtain at 8pm.

OOTB 😀

On Thursday 26th June, at 8pm, Out Of The Bedroom will be having an Annual General Meeting at The Kilderkin to discuss events and the future of OOTB.
This is in light of our secretary, Nyk Stoddart, having to stand down from his role after years of outstanding service, during which time he’s actually been doing the work of what, more ideally, would have been done by two people.
If you’re interested in being a member of the committee, we’re looking for someone to schedule meetings and take notes, as well as someone to book acts and do publicity, but outside this, we’re always looking for volunteers willing to help out with compering, sound and the setting up of equipment.
This meeting is an open invite, so anyone who wishes to join in the discussions and may be interested in contributing to the running of OOTB in a greater or lesser capacity will be most welcome.
I look forward to seeing you there,
Steve Osborne (Chairman of Out Of The Bedroom).

OOTB 568 – 7th June – Open Slots

Posted 04/06/2014 By admin

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHello. Staring at open slots puts my stomach in knots, particularly during summer when they expand a little more due to the ambient warmth of the nearest star in this branch of our galaxy. Listening to open slots is a little easier on the ears because fleshy bipeds with flowing glossy lifeblood are able to create sound-waves in the form of music and words in a rather pleasing manner usually. To capture this sort of behaviour that vibrates paper-thin eardrums encoded as artwork in damp squidgy brains, then OOTB at the stone-built Kilderkin bar is just the place for a timely and worthwhile visit.

Sign up around 7:15pm-7:30pm and then OOTB starts the open slots space party at 8pm. Original material only and free entry as always.

OOTB 566 – 24th May – Simon Gilmour

Posted 21/05/2014 By admin

Hello. Summer is upon us (I think) and we have booked another amazing featured act. Simon Gilmour blew us away when he played OOTB recently. Amazing voice and catchy songs. What more could you want?
In his own words:
“It’s astonishing to think that less than two years ago Simon Gilmour had never performed in public or even written a song. Fast forward 20 or so months, a good few live performances and some well earned praise and we have a new comer deserving of much attention. The music is, without doubt, rhythmically pleasing and vocally easy on the ears, but it is in the lyrics that Simon Gilmour is set apart. His style is observational and oxymoronically both introspective and uplifting. Simon’s musical influences span the decades, and the genres, from Stevie Wonder to Prince to Jason Mraz, but in every respect Simon is a new talent, fresh and incomparable. Fast forward another 20 months or so and with the right exposure and a fair share of luck we should be looking at a young artist well on his way.”

Regular slots are available, sign up 7:15pm-7:30pm and OOTB kicks off feeling comfortably numb at 8pm. Original material only and free entry as always.

Luke Scott Dumper2Hello. Featured act for this week is Luke Scott Dumper who has played at OOTB several times before, and is well worth a listen.
In his own words:
~ From punk (F.T.O), trance-metal (Death of Lola Rose) and now on to his solo career, Luke has made a name for himself on the Plymouth music scene and continues to do so every time he plays. Plymouth’s Luke Scott Dumper isn’t your usual singer songwriter. Using alternative influences within his song writing (ranging from post hardcore to folk) and punk ethics, Luke sings about the good and bad in life, the ups and downs and the weird and un-ordinary. Some critics say Luke is at the fore front of the post-folk genre that has up-risen in past few years after constant efforts of gigging and touring throughout the UK. The DIY scene is very much a part of how Luke works in the industry but still has had the chance of sharing the stage with Sir Bob Geldoff, Crazy Arm, The Xcerts, Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun and many more. Luke released his 2nd EP “Can’t Kill the Cat” Dec 2011 which is available on Spotify, Amazon, itunes and more, and 2013 saw the release of his debut album “Learning Life the Hard Way” ~

Performance slots this Saturday require filling with your original creations. Sign up around 7:15pm-7:30pm and then OOTB kicks it all off at 8pm. Not to be missed.

OOTB 563 – 3rd May – Alex Templeman

Posted 30/04/2014 By admin

alex templemanHello folks, people and humans. Featured act this week is the rather talented Alex Templeman. Alex is a London-born songwriter who has been performing at OOTB for the last couple of months. Having been classically trained vocally, he got bored of singing opera when he was younger and decided to teach himself how to play guitar and write songs. Alex plays country/folk tunes heavily inspired by American singer-songwriters such as James Taylor, Kathy Mattera, Jeff Buckley and Neko Case.

Here’s a link to some of Alex’s work: soundcloud.com/alextempleman

Regular performance slots are there for the taking. Sign up at 7:15pm-7:30pm and then OOTB un-velcros the velvet curtain with a rrripppp amplified accordingly through the P.A. at 8pm. Original material only and free entry as always.

OOTB 😀

dogonaswingHello to all you sweet tasty suckable dragees out there, snugly wrapped in light coloured waxy paper denoting what flavour you might be to tingle our rough tongues.

This week’s featured act has become a very popular and regular performer with his distinct style of song-crafting. Ed Ritchie is a much respected and long time contributor to the Edinburgh music scene, with his catchy rhythmic songs about love and social anxiety. He will be playing with his four-piece acoustic band a few songs from ‘On Love’, as well as material from the EP he is currently working on.

In his own words:
“My name is Ed and I play music under the name of Dog On A Swing. It’s a cross between a solo project and a band, named after one particular GIF of a dog in a tyre swing. The first studio EP, On Love, was released in 2013. You can stream it (and buy hand-numbered CDs) by visiting dogonaswing.co.uk . I’m currently looking to play as many gigs with as many people as far as I can go!”

Open slots this Saturday are there for the taking. Sign up time is around 7:15pm-7:30pm and then OOTB unzips the zip at 8pm for an evening of live original performances. It would be therefore considered by those of high standing in this land to be ‘oh so silly’ to miss this one.

Check out The Listening Room for an update on their new venue.
